Chat with signed-in visitors

Let your site tell Flagbell who is chatting, so the chat lands on the right customer.

An anonymous visitor is unverified. An email address they type in the chat never links to a contact by itself, and by email they only get your team's answers.

If people sign in on your site, your server can vouch for them. It signs a short JSON Web Token (HS256) with your brand's widget secret, holding:

  • email: the visitor's address;
  • name: optional;
  • exp: when the token expires, at most 24 hours ahead.

Pass it on the script tag, or after sign-in from your code:

<script src="https://app.flagbell.com/widget/v1/widget.js" data-key="fbw_…" data-user-token="eyJ…" async></script>
Flagbell.identify(token); // after sign-in
Flagbell.reset();         // after sign-out: a fresh chat

A verified visitor can have the whole conversation emailed to them at the end.

The widget secret belongs on your server only. Never put it in the browser or in your site's code.
